The Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRF & JRHT) are two important influencing organisations with an ambitious agenda for inspiring positive social change. Together, they aim for a prosperous and poverty free UK in which everyone can participate and thrive.

In order to maximise our contribution to this agenda, amplify our voice and further extend our influence, we recognise the ongoing need to gather, develop and use robust evidence of the highest quality. We are now looking for an inaugural Chief Economist to strengthen our arguments and develop credible and innovative policy solutions for poverty reduction.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Chief Economist will hold a key leadership role. You will be economic literate with proven competence in this area. You will bring a consistent track record as a thought leader and opinion former. This will allow you to provide specialist advice and support where necessary across the organisation, while also undertaking sensitive external-facing duties, representing us at the highest levels. Highly persuasive, you will be used to bringing challenge to debate, and have the personal presence to command rapid credibility. You must have demonstrable experience of conveying complex material to a wide array of specialist and lay audiences across a variety of channels. Political awareness and sensitivity are critical.

The Chief Economist will be responsible for a small team whose purpose is to provide proactive and reactive analysis of economic and public policy trends, helping us gauge our progress against our vision. The experience of using quantitative research to inform policy or practice development is therefore vital, and you will need to show well-developed people and project management skills. The Chief Economist will enable us to raise the bar still further on research, promote robust evidence to the wider sector, and ensure clear thinking on evidence and impact measurement is embedded throughout the organisations.

The closing date for applications is 22 February at 12pm.

If you want to know more about the role or selection process, please contact our employment agency advisors, Green Park on [email protected] or 020 7399 3993, and ask for Kai Adams or Jaimi Keemer.
