The Institute for AI Policy and Strategy (IAPS) is a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. focused on developing practical policy solutions for managing advanced AI. The AI Policy Fellowship is IAPS’s program offering a fully funded, three-month placement for professionals to work closely with leading experts on real-world AI policy challenges. Fellows contribute to active projects while receiving training, mentorship, and career support.
IAPS Fellows work alongside a senior expert to support active projects on advanced AI governance, contributing research, analysis, and writing. The role is designed to help professionals transition into impactful careers in AI policy.
Fellows support an expert’s current AI policy portfolio through tasks such as conducting research, drafting memos or policy briefs, and preparing for stakeholder meetings. They engage with topics like export controls, compute governance, and international AI coordination.
Prior experience in AI policy is not required, but Fellows should demonstrate a clear interest in the field and the ability to contribute to high-impact policy work. Ideal candidates may have backgrounds in areas such as technology, national security, or government.
For the 3-month program, fellows receive a $15,000 stipend ($22,000 for Senior Fellows)
