The Center for Global Development (CGD) is an independent, non-partisan, non-profit policy research organization in Washington, DC and London, UK, that focuses on the issues and institutions that are critical to inclusive development. Through rigorous empirical research and active engagement with the global policy community, we focus on the policy intersections of low- and middle-income countries and the governments, institutions, and corporations that can be partners in delivering greater progress.
Since its creation in 2001, CGD has earned a global reputation as a highly effective “think-and-do tank.” Headquartered in Washington DC with a European presence led from our London office, the Center has about 130 full-time staff and an annual budget of approximately $37 million.
The role
CGD seeks an experienced Policy Analyst to produce high-quality, practical research and analysis on issues related to health product markets and supply chains in lower and lower middle income countries. This role is a unique opportunity to influence policy by working alongside one or more Senior Fellows within CGD’s Global Health program. The role requires initiative to tackle tough, unstructured problems, producing high-quality policy materials for internal and external audiences. This is a fixed-term position for 18 months.
Key roles and responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct background research and analysis. Co-author policy briefs, blogs, and papers
- Track policy developments and identify opportunities to strengthen policy analysis and outreach in the area of health product markets and supply chains in low and lower middle income countries
- Support outreach and advocacy efforts to institutions, policymakers, and their staff
- Organize events, including setting agendas and preparing presentations and materials
- Develop relevant partnerships to amplify the work of the Center
- Work closely with Communications Team to translate programmatic research into policy-focused products
- Contribute to the drafting of communications and reports to funders and supporters
Experience and skills
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- A bachelor’s degree in economics, supply chain management, development, political science, industrial engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field and significant relevant experience. A master’s degree may be substituted for some, but not all, experience. Relevant experience should be in economic, or public policy analysis related to international development, global health, and/or health market dynamics
- Strong knowledge and experience of working with government and international institutions
- Excellent written and spoken English; proficiency in another language is a plus
- Outstanding organization skills and attention to detail; proven ability to advance projects with hands-off supervision while being accountable for the accuracy of outputs
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior managers in the public and private sector
