The Center for Strategic Development is an independent institution established by decree of the Council of Ministers. The vision of the CSD is to be Saudi Arabia’s premier economic think tank. As such, the institution is envisioned to oversee the following nine strands of work:

  1. Economic modelling
  2. Housing and maintaining the Decision Support Dashboard: converting data into useful information for decision makers and practitioners
  3. Policy research, analysis, design, and recommendation
  4. Housing and running the Knowledge Center
  5. Providing consulting services to Ministry of Economy and Planning, other government institutions, and external clients
  6. Forging partnerships with national, regional, and international policy think tanks and institutions as necessary to realize its mission
  7. Building and spinning off topic-specific think tanks as necessary to realize the center’s mission
  8. Building and housing the Behavioral Insights Unit “Nudge Unit”
  9. Developing and maintaining Saudi Arabia’s implementation road-map for realizing the economic growth objectives of Vision 2030

The Behavioral Researcher position will assist Head of Behavioral Economics in designing and conducting research that broadens the understanding of the human experience in built environments. The position offers an opportunity to join a highly interdisciplinary team that is accountable for understanding the business context, applying behavioral principles in an economic environment to contribute to the policy design.

Key roles and responsibilities

  •  Conduct literature reviews on new findings, methodologies, and technologies related to human behavior, productivity, satisfaction, comfort, emotions and well-being
  • Assist in the design and execution of research protocols
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of behavioral data
  • Coordinate and assist with any activities required to run an active research laboratory
  • Assist in identification of new areas of research and techniques that can solve economic problems •Assist in generating actionable insights related to patterns of human behaviors that can have economic impact

Background & experience

  • Bachelors, or Master’s degree and at least 2 years of work experience in the economics or psychological or behavioral science such as: Behavioral Economics, Social Psychology, Applied Experimental Psychology, etc.
  • Experience working in a research setting
  • Familiarity with the Saudi Economy
  • Fluency in English is required and Arabic is preferred

Competencies and Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of data entry and basic data analysis, including statistical methods
  • Demonstrated understanding & knowledge of country economics & public policy
  • Ability to manage multiple project priorities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of experimental design for behavioral research Ability to thrive in self-managed and team-based work
  • Ardent detail-orientation, organizational skills, and commitment to delivering high quality work

Additional competencies and skills desired

  • Interest in understanding how design and the environment can impact human behavior and performance
  • Experience conducting research both in the laboratory and in the field
  • Experience with survey creation or validation
