The Malabo Montpellier Panel program constitutes a group of leading African and international experts from the fields of agriculture, ecology, food security, nutrition, public policy and global development. Its core mission is to support evidence-based dialogue among policy makers at the highest level. The Panel works with African governments at the highest level to provide support and evidence-based research that facilitates the identification and implementation of policies that enhance agriculture, food security and nutrition to support an overall food system transformation across the continent.
The role
The purpose of the Consultant is to support the technical work of the Panel. With this in mind, Imperial College is recruiting a consultant to produce a monograph (a synthesis) on the Panel’s reports and case studies produced to-date. The seven reports and their accompanying case studies are available on the program’s website: www.mamopanel.org
Key roles and responsibilities
The monograph will be a synthesis of the Panel’s existing publications.
This will include:
- Proposing a production timeline for completion of the work.
- Leading the engagement with the Program Head and research team to identify key highlights and framework for the monograph.
- Creating an outline, cluster content.
- Writing, editing (3-5 rounds) and proofreading the monograph, specifically:
- The consultant is expected to update the information/data as needed to strengthen the content of the monograph.
- The monograph must be written in easily accessible policy-oriented language.
- The consultant is expected to ensure that all data is accurate, and all references are correctly cited.
- The consultant is expected to be available for a minimum of 3 review rounds and a maximum of 5 review rounds, implementing the edits and comments received from peers, members of the Panel and external reviewers.
- Develop relevant graphics and guide design process with the in-house design team.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all findings.
Experiences and skills
- A minimum of a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in agriculture economics, international development studies, public policy, food and nutrition security or a related field
- Fluent English speaker able to deliver flawless error-free copy
- Demonstrated record of producing high quality, easily accessible reports and briefing papers for advocacy, policy or research for developmentExperience in producing high-quality research and analysis in a timely manner and in a fast-paced environment
- Track record in writing for policy – in easily accessible language
- Proven experience in applied research and policy analysis
- Demonstrable experience working on African economic development policy, with a focus on food system transformation
- Experience working with international or multi-stakeholder organizations and institutions or governments
- Sound understanding of (international) policies relevant to Africa on economic development, agricultural transformation, food and nutrition security and climate change
- Knowledge of the African institutional and policy landscape as they relate to the context of the Panel’s work
- Self-starter, able to work independently and within a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
- Reliable and diligent with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to analyze and research complex ideas and apply appropriate methodologies
- Ability to prioritize own work in response to deadlines, with minimal supervision
