For the last four years, UN University Centre for Policy Research has worked on a variety of policy issues around the fight against modern slavery, notably data with the creation of Delta 8.7, the Alliance 8.7 Knowledge Platform; international law and international criminal justice; and the financial sector with the creation of the Liechtenstein Initiative for a Financial Sector Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. UN University’s thought leadership in this field has led it to become a centre of excellence for policy-relevant research questions related to anti-slavery and anti-trafficking efforts.
The Outreach and Impact Officer will be responsible for managing the Modern Slavery Programme’s external stakeholder relationships, including with donors, academia and research institutes and, centrally, policy actors.
Key roles and responsibilities
- Act as the focal point for all existing and new Modern Slavery Programme external stakeholders, cultivating strong relationships with relevant groups, especially policy actors in the developing world and global research partners
- Research and establish new strategic partnerships and opportunities to ensure impact
- Be responsible for all M&E related to Modern Slavery Programme projects and the programme itself
- Be responsible for meeting programme goals relating to online and offline engagement by stakeholders
- Provide broad communications support to the programme and other projects, under the supervision of the UNU-CPR Communications Manager
Experience and skills expected of the post holder
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience
- A master’s degree in communications, policy affairs, or a relevant field strong communications and outreach skills with substantial previous experience in writing for diverse audiences and forms
- Demonstrated commitment to working with policy-oriented stakeholders in the developing world
- Proven track record in successfully managing stakeholder relations and donor relations
- Proven track record performing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) duties
- An innovative approach to outreach and project management with a broad knowledge of relevant digital platforms
- Superior analytical and conceptual thinking skills
- Solid understanding of statistics, data analysis, and research methodologies
- Familiarity with issues surrounding modern slavery, human trafficking, child labour, and forced labour is desirable
- Excellent English-language oral and written communication skills; knowledge of other official UN languages is desirable
- Strong ability to establish priorities and multitask within tight timelines
- Ability to work independently and report work activities in a timely and proactive manner
- Solid interpersonal and problem-solving skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity and gender parity.
