CGD is an independent, non-profit research organization in Washington, D.C., dedicated to improving the policies of the rich and powerful–the United States, other rich countries, the emerging powers, and international institutions as the World Bank, the IMF and the World Health Organization–to improve economic and social development prospects in poor countries.

The role

The policy fellow will have the opportunity to be part of CGD’s rich intellectual life while working on an independent policy project designed to overcome a clearly identified development policy obstacle.

The policy fellow will have the opportunity to be part of CGD’s rich intellectual life while working on an independent policy project designed to overcome a clearly identified development policy obstacle.

The full-time, one-year fellowship is well suited for those who wish to take a sabbatical from their current position in the US government or are otherwise planning to leave US government employment.

Experience and skills

Candidates should be the best and brightest mid-career policy professionals (minimum seven to ten years’ work experience) with solid track records, great future promise and demonstrated development policy leadership. Potential applicants should have first-hand experience with development policymaking within the US government. This could include experience at the White House, US Agency for International Development, State Department, Department of the Treasury, US Development Finance Corporation, Millennium Challenge Corporation, US Trade Representative, Department of Defense, or intelligence agencies. Potential applicants could also include US congressional staff with experience in US development policy/foreign affairs. Additional private sector and other development experience is welcome.
