Marcos Gonzalez Hernando

Marcos has over 12 years of experience in academia, think tanks and consultancy in both Europe and Latin America. His main research interests concern think tanks and the policy research and advocacy landscape, as well as attitudes to inequality and welfare among high-income earners. On the former topic he published the book British think tanks after the 2008 global financial crisis (Palgrave, 2019) and on the latter he co-authored, with Gerry Mitchell, Uncomfortably off: Why addressing inequality matters, even for high earners (Policy Press, 2023).

He has strong connections with Chilean and European universities and think tanks, their policy funding environment, and the history of its policy-relevant social science research. For instance, in successive projects he has actively engaged with former members and advisors who worked in the Chilean Constitutional Convention process (2021-2022 & 2023), the Chilean Central Bank, and German political foundations. He also has experience conducting qualitative research, designing and analysing surveys, webscrapping, and triangulating and presenting mixed-methods research results.
