Phase 2
OTT is advising the Ford Foundation to better understand how think tanks fit within its funding portfolios. This is the second phase of a previous project carried out from June to October 2025. The initial portfolio analysis mapped funded think tanks by location and focus issues, while examining how the Foundation typically works with them.
This analysis will expand on the initial portfolio analysis on how the Foundation works with and supports think tanks through a deeper investigation into the Foundation’s international programs, funding flows, and institutional relationships, and seeks to better understand how the Foundation’s global architecture supports (or could better support) evidence ecosystems in different contexts.

OTT is helping the Ford Foundation to understand better how think tanks fit within its funding portfolios. By doing so, we will help the foundation improve its engagement with think tanks and enhance its overall impact.
The project will identify which think tanks are funded by the Ford Foundation, their location and focus issues. It will deepen the understanding of the funding mechanisms the foundation uses and its objectives for support.
