RIETI was established to carry out independent policy research and offer recommendations in a variety of areas. Located in the heart of Tokyo's governmental district, it is in an ideal position to benefit from the synergy gained by bringing together people from the policy-making, academic, and private sectors. RIETI's focus is on the most pressing issues of structural reform, and it adopts a medium- to long-term viewpoint in its research undertakings.
