The Nansen-Zhu International Research Centre (NZC) was formally opened on 4 November 2003. The Centre is located at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (IAP/CAS) in Beijing, China. NZC has five founders: IAP/CAS; the Nansen Environmental and Remote Sensing Center, Bergen, Norway; the University of Bergen, Bergen, Norway; the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, Bergen, Norway; and the Peking University, Beijing, China. The overarching goal of the NZC is to become an internationally acknowledged climate research and training centre with emphasis on tropical and high-latitude regions, and the interactions between these regions, for past, present and future climate.
