The Brandenburg-Berlin Institute for Social Science Studies (BISS e.V.) was founded in March 1990 as an independent, non-profit social science institute and is largely financed through the acquisition of third-party funds. The scientific activities of the institute are spatially concentrated on the East German federal states, in particular on the Berlin-Brandenburg area. For several years now, this work has included perspectives in international comparison.
