Founded in 1971 in Peru as a research-for-development organization with a focus on potato, sweetpotato and Andean roots and tubers, CIP attained international organization status with the entry into force of the CIP Treaty in 1999. Operating in over 20 countries across Asia, Africa and the Americas with over 500 scientific staff, CIP develops and delivers science based agricultural solutions to global challenges. CIP’s Genebank is the custodian of the world Potato, Sweetpotato and Andean Root and Tuber Crops collection held in trust in perpetuity for the benefit the international community.
