This organisation may not be a traditional think tank. We have included it in this list as we deem it to be a 'boundary' organisation – in other words, it might have some qualities or characterstics of a think tank.
Environmental Defense Fund is a leading national non-profit organization representing more than 700,000 members. Since 1967, it has linked science, economics and law to create innovative, equitable and cost-effective solutions to society's most urgent environmental problems. EDF works to solve the most critical environmental problems facing the planet, in many areas that span the biosphere: climate, oceans, ecosystems and health. Since these topics are intertwined, EDF's solutions take a multidisciplinary approach. EDF works in concert with other organizations, as well as with business, government and communities, and avoid duplicating work already being done effectively by others. Environmental Defense Fund is dedicated to protecting the environmental rights of all people, including future generations. Guided by science, EDF evaluates environmental problems and works to create and advocate solutions that win lasting political, economic and social support because they are nonpartisan, cost-efficient and fair. EDF believes that a sustainable environment will require economic and social systems that are equitable and just.
