GEC-SH is a research unit operating in the Kivu University Research Center of the Higher Pedagogical Institute of Bukavu. Its research areas are currently limited to the Kivu region (North Kivu, South Kivu and Maniema). Its thematic focus on conflict-related research looks at land and identity and the process of conflict transformation. Its thematic focus on human security looks at security relating to communities, the environment, politics and the economy.
