The purpose of the institute is to investigate political and social conflicts on an interdisciplinary level and to develop possible solutions as well as – in the sense of scientific policy advice – to create factual decision-making bases. Basic research forms the basis of this activity. The institute cooperates with research institutions in related fields in Germany and abroad.
