The institute researches scientific and technical developments in relation to systemic relationships and technological consequences. Research focuses on ethical, ecological, economic, social, political-institutional and cultural issues. The main goals are advising the research and technology policy, providing orientation knowledge for the design of socio-technical systems and taking part in the discourse on controversial technology policy issues. ITAS advises the German Bundestag via the Office for Technology Assessment (TAB) and, as a leading member of the European Technology Assessment Group (ETAG), the European Parliament. The results of the research and advice are public.
