The Institute for Economic Policy was founded in 1950 as an independent economic research institute at the University of Cologne. The primary task of the institute is to examine current fundamental problems in the area of economic policy. Particular attention is paid to regulatory issues and the institutional framework necessary for a functioning social market economy. A non-profit sponsorship group supports the work of the institute.
