The Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) aims at generating 'maps of knowledge' in an iterative societal learning process, improving the understanding of fundamental system dynamics is essential for shaping a democratic global sustainability transition. In conducting Assessment Reports, a continuous iterative exchange with diverse actors and groups in policy and society will be vital to consider different perspectives and value judgements in the analysis of policy options. In the face of the significant complexity of the relevant systems, only a coordinated effort can possibly generate a policy-relevant synthesis of the available body of knowledge. Therefore, MCC intends to foster close collaboration with policymakers, society and other sustainability institutes worldwide. In addition, the institute will develop genuine research contributions in the following areas: - Economic Growth - Resources and International Trade - Land use, Infrastructure and Transport - Governance - Foundations of Assessments und Scientific Policy Advice MCC is co-founded by Stiftung Mercator and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK).
