The New Social Market Economy (INSM) initiative is an advocative think tank and lobby organization founded in 2000 by the employers’ association Gesamtmetall. Their aim is to transmit their public policy messages towards decision-makers and the general public. They believe that the willingness for liberal economic reforms should be increased, a business-friendly climate should be created and personal responsibility, competition and entrepreneurial freedom should be emphasized as positive values. In Germany, the initiative is known for their public relations work and their campaigns. In the past, some of their activities and campaigns have been repeatedly discussed controversially and have provoked public criticism.
