The ÖFSE was founded in 1967 in the legal form of a foundation under public law. The founders – the Austrian Academic Exchange Service and the Afro-Asian Institute Vienna – pursued the goal of establishing an information, documentation and research centre on questions of development policy and development cooperation. Both founding organizations withdrew in the 1990s. Current foundation bodies are the Executive Board, the Supervisory Board and the Foundation Auditor. The organization chart provides an up-to-date organizational overview of the ÖFSE.
