PDI is a university-affiliated research institute in Korea University run by Department of Political Science and International Relations. It was established to contribute to research on peace and democracy in the Korean Peninsula. PDI has conducted research on peaceful coexistence in the Korean Peninsula and international relations among Asian countries. In March 2010, PDI has widened its research interests by running seven centers: Center for the Study of Inequality and Democracy, Center for the Study of Peace and Reunification, Center for the Study of Political Leadership, Center for the Study of European Union, Korea-Asia Center for Development and Cooperation, Center for Reconciliation and Cooperation in East Asia, and Center for the Study of Conflicts. PDI also seeks to share its research results with the public by opening up access to the public on the website and running civic education programs in order to promote the public understanding of politics, peace, and democracy.
