The Institute, formerly called the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies (IDSS), was upgraded to the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) on 1 January 2007. Since its establishment, IDSS has acquired the reputation as a leading research and graduate teaching institution in strategic and international affairs in the Asia-Pacific region. As the RSIS, They will continue to provide a rigorous professional graduate education with a strong practical emphasis. They conduct policy-relevant research in defence, national security, international relations, strategic studies and diplomacy. They aim to build a global network of like-minded professional schools.
