The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute was preceded by the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER). In 1999 the Institute merged with the Mona-based Consortium Graduate School of Social Sciences (CGSSS). SALISES has since been a social science research and graduate teaching operation, extending the legacies of both ISER and CGSSS.
