{"id":349526,"date":"2020-01-23T18:43:52","date_gmt":"2020-01-23T23:43:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onthinktanks.org\/?post_type=job&#038;p=349526"},"modified":"2020-01-23T18:43:52","modified_gmt":"2020-01-23T23:43:52","slug":"associate-education-policy-analyst","status":"publish","type":"job","link":"https:\/\/onthinktanks.org\/job\/associate-education-policy-analyst\/","title":{"rendered":"Associate education policy analyst"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank in Washington, DC, dedicated to the study of national and international migration policies, seeks an Associate Policy Analyst to support its work on K-12 education policy.<\/p>\n<h2>The role<\/h2>\n<p>The primary functions for the successful candidate for this associate policy analyst position are to produce qualitative and quantitative analysis on elementary and secondary education issues affecting English Learners (ELs) and children from immigrant families in the U.S., and support stakeholders in understanding and addressing policy challenges and opportunities affecting these students.<\/p>\n<h2>Key roles and responsibilities<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Research and write policy briefs and reports, background papers, and memoranda, analyzing policy barriers and solutions affecting the academic success of English Learners and immigrant students in U.S. K-12 public schools<\/li>\n<li>Provide support to MPI research and technical assistance efforts focused on educational success for English Learners and first- and second-generation immigrant students<\/li>\n<li>Conduct qualitative and\/or quantitative analyses for diverse audiences, including policymakers, government agency managers, community stakeholders, and others<\/li>\n<li>Interact with scholars, policymakers, education and immigrant advocates, and other stakeholders to coordinate program events and activities<\/li>\n<li>Represent MPI externally at conferences and meetings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Experience and skills<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Master\u2019s degree or equivalent graduate degree with relevant coursework<\/li>\n<li>3-5 years relevant work experience involving policy analysis, qualitative field research, and\/or quantitative research in nonprofit, law, and\/or government sectors, especially in the field of K-12 education<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. education policy and federal education law, such as the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, and its impact on first- and second-generation immigrant youth and\/or English Learners in elementary and secondary schools<\/li>\n<li>Experience with state and\/or federal advocacy, coalition-building, and community organizing is a plus<\/li>\n<li>Ability to understand and synthesize complex policy provisions and education-related datasets<\/li>\n<li>Proven research, organization, and project management skills<\/li>\n<li>Superior writing and editing skills, and comfort with public speaking<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work as part of a team and independently, and prioritize multiple assignments and projects<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated professionalism and judgment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Other useful information<\/h2>\n<p>Generous benefits package &amp; salary based on experience<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Migration Policy Institute (MPI), a nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank in Washington, DC, dedicated to the study of national and international migration policies, seeks an Associate Policy Analyst to support its work on K-12 education policy.
