Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and education organization that explores and illuminates America’s changing cultural, religious, and political landscape. PRRI’s mission is to help journalists, scholars, pundits, thought leaders, and the general public better understand American public opinion and behavior, and the important cultural and religious dynamics shaping American society and politics.
The role
The Director of Development will work in close collaboration with the CEO and Chief of Staff, as part of PRRI’s executive leadership team, to develop and implement a funding strategy that supports the organization’s sustainability and growth.
Roles and responsibilities
- Support PRRI’s CEO in creating and executing a development strategy with clearly defined outcomes, activities, and responsibilities
- Develop processes and systems to identify potential institutional funders and track and manage existing funding relationships, primarily among major foundations; use data and analytics to drive efficiencies
- Plan and prepare for meetings with current and potential supporters and accompany leadership at cultivation meetings
- Work collaboratively with staff and Board to engage them in fundraising where appropriate
- Work closely with the Chief of Staff to ensure accurate accounting and balancing of all financial information
- Manage a small but growing development team
Skills and experience
- Minimum of five years of nonprofit fundraising experience with major national foundations
- Demonstrated track record of cultivating and maintaining relationships with institutional program officers
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and a proven ability to inspire and engage a variety of donors
- Strong listening and problem-solving abilities with a positive, can-do attitude
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cultivate teamwork
- Strong facility working with fundraising databases, foundation compliance systems such as FLUXX, and using data analytics to maximize funding opportunities
