Kivu International is a value-driven, specialist development organisation. Kivu is dedicated to improving the policy responses to social and economic challenges in the developing world. However, we do not dictate to others how to solve policy problems; instead we support local institutions to develop their own effective solutions.
The role
The position will involve mentoring, advising and supporting a range of local institutions including government bodies (e.g. spending ministries and Prime Minister’s Offices) and non-government organisations (e.g. think tanks and civil society organisations). The successful applicant will provide specialist support on economic analysis and policy development as an integral part of a small, high calibre and experienced team.
Key roles and responsibilities
The role will involve supporting Kivu’s projects in several countries in Africa and Asia. Current areas of potential work include: (i) economic policy development and influencing in Zambia, where key issues include government debt and fiscal policy, agricultural market reforms and trade policy; (ii) social and economic policy influencing in several other sub-Saharan African countries; (iii) direct government support for North African governments on public service reform; and (iv) mentoring and support on policy analysis and key research methods for think tanks in Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Experience and skills
This position is an ideal opportunity for an economist/economic policy analyst with a minimum of five years’ practical experience of the policy making or policy influencing process, for example with a think tank, in the civil service or an NGO. Applicants are not required to have specific international development experience.
