For the last four years, UN University Centre for Policy Research has worked on a variety of policy issues around the fight against modern slavery, notably data with the creation of Delta 8.7, the Alliance 8.7 Knowledge Platform; international law and international criminal justice; and the financial sector with the creation of the Liechtenstein Initiative for a Financial Sector Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. UN University’s thought leadership in this field has led it to become a centre of excellence for policy-relevant research questions related to anti-slavery and anti-trafficking efforts.
The Content and Editorial Lead will be responsible for the content commissioning, curation, and quality control process on all written, visual, and multi-media content issued by the Modern Slavery Programme, including Delta 8.7.
Key roles and responsibilities
The Content and Editorial Lead will report to the Programme Lead and will be expected to:
- Serve as lead editor for all programme content, managing content for consistency, accuracy, and adherence to style and brand standards, while strategically developing new content and offerings to achieve programme objectives
- Commission, curate, and provide quality control on all written, visual, and multi-media content issued by the Modern Slavery Programme, including serving as Product Manager for delta87.org
- Oversee content production, editorial, publication, and distribution processes Within Delta 8.7:
- Develop the Thematic Overviews in new directions, expand the Learning Opportunities offering, and curate the Forum
- Oversee non-English language content strategy and all translation processes and relationships
- Work with the Data Science Lead to expand the ‘How to Measure the Change’ section.
- Serve as liaison to external web developers and other relevant content and editorial consultants and contractors
Experience and skills expected of the post holder
- Advanced university degree in journalism, creative writing, history, international relations, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience, including at least two (2) in a lead or commissioning editorial role, or an equivalent content development or publishing role
- Demonstrated experience in the entrepreneurial development of online content or online platform or product management
- At least two (2) years’ experience in managing project budgets
- Vendor management experience is essential; related project management experience is a plus
- Familiarity with issues surrounding modern slavery, human trafficking, child labour, and forced labour is desirable
- Superior analytical and conceptual thinking skills
- Familiarity with statistics, data analysis, and research methodologies
- Superior English-language oral and written communication skills; knowledge of other official UN languages or delta87.org languages is desirable
- Strong ability to establish priorities and multitask within tight timelines
- Ability to work independently and report work activities in a timely and proactive manner
- Solid interpersonal and problem-solving skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multicultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity and gender parity
