This book is a compilation of data visualisations that competed in On Think Tanks first data visualisation competition, in addition to relevant commentary about data visualisation more generally and about the submissions themselves that happened during the competition. This includes interviews with the producers of the winning visualisations as well as top tips from the competition about how to develop data visualisations with impact.
Ways of communicating research are changing. New technology has led to great advances in how people access information, but also in how think tanks can present research in a visually engaging format.
In July 2013, On Think Tanks launched the On Think Tanks Data Visualisation Competition with support from the Open Society Foundations’ Think Tank Fund. Our goal was simple: to incentivise think tanks, especially in low- and middle-income countries, to experiment with new ways of conveying information.
All together, we had 29 submissions across three qualifying rounds. Submissions spanned 18 low- or middle-income countries and 23 think tanks. This book, edited by Jeff Knezovich, is a compilation of all of the visualisations that competed, in addition to relevant commentary about data visualisation more generally and about the submissions themselves that happened during the competition. This includes interviews with the producers of the winning visualisations as well as top tips from the competition about how to develop data visualisations with impact.
