BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity, which uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people to understand their rights. BBC Media Action also seeks to strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure. It has a focus on health, governance and rights, and resilience and humanitarian response.

BBC Media Action is looking for a Digital Editor to join their team, part-time, in London.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this post include:

  • Monitoring key debates within the field of international development and to understanding how those debates relate to BBC Media Action’s core thematic priorities.
  • Use this knowledge to shape content and strategy for a new area of the corporate website devoted to Policy and Evidence work, working closely with other senior team members to source relevant insights and data.
  • Commission all content for this Online space, shape the narrative structure and visual design for that content and provide contributors with detailed written feedback.
  • Manage the editorial planning, staff coordination, timelines and resourcing necessary to populate this section of the website
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends in digital and social media and use website analytics tools to evaluate performance.

The Ideal Candidate

The post holder is expected to:

  • Have a strong knowledge of International development, sound editorial judgement, and excellent writing skills.
  • Proven experience editing for Policy and/or research audience, along with experience of editing an array of different Online formats, including blogs.
  • An understanding of basic editing and use of video, audio and stills photography and have sufficient technical ability to operate appropriate equipment and software, including content management systems.
  • Be proficient in social media and digital analytics and to quickly establish rapport and effective working relationships with a wide range of people working at different levels of the organisation.

Location: London

Contract: 12 months fixed term, ending no later than 31st March 2017. This is a part-time role, working 3 days a week – (21 hours)
