Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is an international membership organisation that promotes and advances civil engineering around the world. The ICE Policy and Public Affairs team exists to deliver insights on infrastructure for societal benefit, using the professional engineering knowledge of that global chartered membership.
The role
ICE is recruiting an Events Programme Manager to join its Policy and Public Affairs (PPA) team for an 18 month fixed term contract. This role will oversee end to end delivery of the events programme for the PPA team leading on the research, design and readout of the team’s convening, evidence gathering and public-facing programme of events with the key outcome of ensuring insightful discussions, senior participation and value to decision makers who attend to speak.
Key roles and responsibilities
- Research, plan and deliver a programme of events that complement our global influencing and policy insight transfer programme and our targeted outcomes
- Lead the content and speaker development for team event programmes and activities and identify themes for event discussion; speakers from across government and external sources; areas of research to build into events and audiences for events
- Manage internal customer relationships including with the Director-General and President’s office, and the Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group’s office
- Work with the ICE Events Operations team to plan and execute logistics action items for well-run, professional events, including coordination with internal stakeholders, venues, internal and external suppliers and event participants
- Secure high-profile speakers and contributors to all events
- Manage the logistics and delivery of evidence gathering workshops for policy projects
- Working with the Events Operations and Comms. teams, produce relevant collateral to promote public facing events
- Develop new audience target lists for events
- Manage feedback from events from both speakers and attendees to help identify ways to improve
- Manage venue bookings and sundry costs within financial budgets
Experience and skills
The successful applicant will join an ambitious team and will take ownership for maximising the effect of our Policy events programme in meeting our insight and influencing outcomes. Our ideal candidate will have significant experience of managing events planning and delivery, as well as, some experience of managing projects and budgets. They will communicate in a professional manner and be politically adept. We are also looking for:
- Research skills
- Good knowledge of UK policy and political processes
- Strong interest and knowledge of current affairs
- Ability to manage budgets and spending
- Written communication skills
- Event project management experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint
- Confidence using Salesforce or another CRM system
- Experience using project management software
- Stakeholder engagement at a senior level
