The German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) provides research and strategic advice on current topics and trends in German foreign policy. As an independent, non-partisan, and non-profit organization of experts and members, it has been shaping the foreign policy debate in Germany for more than 60 years and contributes to the international communication of German policy.

The role

DGAP’s Technology and Global Affairs program focuses on how Germany and the European Union can shape digital developments and their massive impact on prosperity, international security, democracy, and the world order. As part of its work, the DGAP will establish a Transatlantic Innovation Board focused to accompany the EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC) and find the ways in which the EU – with Germany as a key player – and the U.S. can align their digital technology capabilities and objectives in the service of an open, democratic, rules-based digital order. In that regard, we are looking for a project assistant to support the TTC Innovation Board project.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Research on transatlantic tech policy and foreign policy.
  • Preparing presentations and content-related support with publications.
  • Organizing and facilitating in-person events and workshops.
  • Support in building up the program’s networks and updating the contact database.
  • Controlling the project budget for the TTC Innovation Board.
  • Providing general administrative support to the program head and teams such as organizing internal meetings and events.

Experience and skills

  • Have completed a Bachelor, preferably Master’s program focused on international relations or technology policy, political science, economics, or related fields preferred.
  • Strong interest in and working knowledge of tech and digital policy issues in a transatlantic context.
  • Prior experience in think tanks, international organizations, or the political field is highly welcomed.
  • Strong writing, communication, and research skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, international, and team-oriented environment.
  • Flexibility to handle diverse research and program tasks.
  • Fluent in German and very good knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
