The purpose of the CIS is to create synergies and foster cooperation in research and education. In an era of rapid global transformations and ever denser multilateral networks, national and international politics are becoming more and more intertwined. CIS seeks to integrate the study of national political systems (Comparative Politics) and the study of international politics (International Relations). Several CIS research groups analyze national and international climate policies and politics: prof. Stefanie Bailer, Global Governance; prof. Thomas Bernauer, International Relations; prof. Katharina Michaelowa, Political Economy of Developing and Transition Countries. CIS regularly attends UN Climate Change conferences, for both research and outreach, including the organization of side events.
