Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia

ISIS Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

ISIS Malaysia is engaged in a wide range of activities, including objective and independent policy research and the fostering of dialogue and debate among the public and private sectors and academia. ISIS programs are directed toward five central areas of national interest: defense, security, and foreign affairs; national and international economic affairs; strategies for nation-building and national unity; policies on energy and natural resources; and science, technology, and industry. ISIS Malaysia's establishment was inspired by the idea that both country and government could benefit from the contributions of policy-relevant work undertaken by a body outside the government on issues of major national interest, including economics, security, and the environment. The institute's focus has shifted over time from conventional security with increasing attention to non-traditional security issues including economic and financial security, transnational crime, communicable health threats (HIV/AIDS, SARS, Avian Flu, etc.) and environmental sustainability.
