PPIC is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public policy in California through independent, objective, nonpartisan research. Research focuses on three program areas: population, economy, and governance and public finance. Studies within these programs examine the underlying forces shaping California's future, cutting across a wide range of public policy concerns. Because public policy problems are complex and demand consideration from many perspectives, PPIC has recruited multidisciplinary staff with expertise in economics, demography, political science, city and regional planning, sociology, and policy analysis. To ensure that its findings are widely available not only to state and local officials but also to decision-makers in the nonprofit and private sectors, the media, and the general public, the institute publishes reports, research briefs, surveys, fact sheets, special papers, and demographic bulletins. PPIC further communicates its research and analysis through conferences, forums, briefings, and other targeted outreach efforts.
