The institute is a privately endowed, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to developing strategic options and national policy in the areas of security, national unification and foreign affairs. It was launched to contribute to Korea's development in the era of globalization and information technology by conducting practical research and policy analysis on emerging issues. Since its inception, the institute has been active in developing policy alternatives for the promotion of peace, security and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula under the aegis of the Sejong Foundation. The institute also conducts educational and training programs for senior government officials, policy makers and business executives. The institute focuses on four major areas-security, inter-Korean relations, international political economy and regional studies-in collaboration with more than 20 research fellows from both domestic and international institutions.
