CIER was established with an endowment of around 1 billion Taiwan dollars, made up of donations partly from government and business organizations in Taiwan. Besides making use of its investment income, the institution also receives funds to carry out specific research projects on behalf of various government and business organizations. Its objectives are: to research both national and international economics and selected areas of concern, with results used as reference in government policy making; to stimulate academic exchange with local and overseas scholars by convening seminars and conferences; to engage in research projects commissioned by outside organizations; and to provide support services, vital information and data to relevant institutions and personnel.
