The ISS is a Polish NGO based in Krakow founded in 1993 by Bogdan Klich, the Jagiellonian University and the Cracow University of Economics under the name „International Center for Democracy Development“, and has been operating under its current name since 2001. The Institute's sponsors include German Marshall Fund, Friedrich Naumann Stiftung und Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Stefan Batory Foundation and polish commercial bank called Bank Millennium. The ISS conducts consulting and training activities in the area of obtaining European funds and publishing. Its previous two publications concerned the fate of Jews and Poles during the Holocaust.
