P2E-LIPI is one of five research centers in the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI). Before the center's reorganization in 1986, it was known as the National Institute for Economic and Social Research (LEKNAS-LIPI). The center envisions becoming a prominent national center for research on various economic problems relating to Indonesia's development and the reference resource for input into national economic and development policy. The major purpose of its research is to add to the knowledge and understanding of various economic and development problems in the world in general and in Indonesia in particular. It is hoped that through its problem-oriented research the center can assist the Indonesian government in dealing with the various economic and development problems facing the country.
